No. Instruction Hours: 40
Course Description:
The surface water hydraulic analysis coures give students a background in the theory and application of surface water hydraulic analysis to problems that are encountered in the field. Special emphasis is given to determinng a discharge measurement when a measurement with a velocity instrument is not possible. Part I is a 1-week course that focuses on basic hydraulic techniques that can be used to measure flows. Emphasis is given to flows that are not contracted by structures. Topics covered include basic rating analysis, slope conveyance, slop area, roughness verification, and stepback water computations. The course includes one day in the field collecting indirect measurement data, an introduction to USGS computer programs used in hydraulic analysis, and the HEC-RAS computer program. THE COURSE REGISTRATION DEADLINE DATE IS AUGUST 28, 2009. All registration is to be completed in DOI LEARN at the following URL: http://doilearn.doi.gov. If you have DOI LEARN questions please send to: oeddoilearn@usgs.gov for assistance.
