NA Course ID: S1448 No. Instruction Hours: 24 Course Description: The USGS 24-hour Basic Firearms Safety course is oriented towards the defensive use of firearms against dangerous wild animals and emphasizes firearm safety and safe and effective firearms handling. Participants will be taught to shoot effectively with various types of firearms. This course provides a basis for understanding and deciding which type of firearm is best for them. Each student must shoot a minimum 70% score on a static target in a timed test in order to quality with the firearm type she/he chooses to carry in the field and pass a written exam.
