The Instructional Design Document—What is it's Purpose? What is it Supposed to Look Like? How Does it Help Me as the Instructional Developer? |
|||||||||||||||||
|
The Instructional Design Document (IDD) is an overview of your TEL course that shows how all the elements fit into the appropriate delivery system. The IDD gives the big picture. It specifies the training materials you are about to develop to an extent that others can determine the sequence of instruction and envision what the learner will experience in each component of your course. The IDD also specifies the course goal, course objective(s), and lesson objective(s)--the most important part of course development! The IDD is very useful in keeping the Instructional Developer(s) on task and on time. The IDD is also required by OED before your course can be deployed from the OED Breeze Server. Below is a simple outline of the IDD for developing a TEL course. Although you may have taught the same course in the classroom, it is a good time to take a second look at the evaluations that you have received from the students concerning the course. Maybe a section would be better presented somewhere else in the course, or maybe a lecture is not needed, etc.
