Welcome to "Creating an Effective IDP"
The Office of Organizational and Employee Development would like to acknowledge and thank the Fish and Wildlife Service for allowing us to adopt their exceptional "Creating an Effective IDP" tutorial tool for USGS employee development purposes. It is an informative and effective tool to create a personalized IDP to enhance current employee work performance and to obtain those short- and long-term professional goals.
The purpose of this guide is to help you in your career planning.
The USGS has recently adopted continuous learning guidance that states that, "Supervisors and managers should
provide
all permanent full-time employees appropriate continuous learning
opportunities, with a minimum goal of 40 hours annually."
The use of an effective Individualized Development Plan (IDP)
is one of the primary tools you can use to help ensure your career
plan
is met. The USGS recommends that "All permanent full-time
Service employees must have an annual IDP." This guide will
help you create an effective IDP.
In this guide you'll find various information about career planning
tools that exist on the internet as well as specific directions
on how to create an effective IDP. We encourage you to use some
of the different tools available here and develop a plan that will
work for you.
If you need any assistance with your IDP during the development
process, talk with your supervisor and your Regional
Employee Development Liaison in the Office of Organizational and Employee Development.
