Office of Organizational and Employee Development Programs and Services |
The Office of Organizational and Employee
Development (OED) was established in fiscal year 01 with the strategic
mandate to create and implement a Bureau-wide training and employee development
program. The primary strategic goals of OED are to enhance the scientific
and technical skills of the USGS workforce and to foster visionary leadership
and management professionalism through a variety of creative programs,
performance support processes, and cost-effective means. The OED is a
partner in the Bureau's Human Resources (HR) Enterprise with the Office
of Equal Opportunity and the Headquarters and Regional Personnel Offices.
The intent of the entire HR enterprise is to facilitate coordination and
integration of our capabilities to best support the people, operations,
customers and programs of the USGS.
The OED, in partnership
with other members of the HR Enterprise, currently provides these programs
and services:

In its first year
of operation, the staff of OED was proud to lead the expansion of the
leadership development program, implementation of the formal and informal
mentoring program, basic supervisory training course, automated Training
Management System, OED website, and pilot for the Bureau's orientation
program. In FY 02, OED will focus its efforts on building a systematic
Bureau-wide scientific and technical training program and supporting policy
and processes, while continuing to cost-effectively manage existing programs
and services to meet Bureau needs. In the January 2002 timeframe, OED
will establish a liaison from the OED staff for each USGS Region and Headquarters,
to facilitate our ability to effectively meet the Bureau's training and
development needs. Over the next two months liaison staff will be meeting
with Regional and Headquarters staff to refine the roles and responsibilities
of the OED liaison staff. We invite you to work with us to identify science,
technical, business, and leadership development needs for the Bureau.
We welcome your ideas and insights, and together we believe we can meet
the developmental needs of the USGS in support of science and business
excellence.
